Uhuru Kenyatta bans single-use plastic products in parks, beaches

President Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in office, announced that legal action will be taken against anyone using plastic bottles in all protected areas.
While addressing the opening plenary of Day 3 of the Women Deliver 2019 Conference, the Head of State said that the move was reached to curb the menace of plastics in different parts of the country.
Both local and domestic tourists will not be allowed to carry plastic bottles to beaches, national parks, forests and areas under conservation.
Other items not to be carried by visitors to these areas are water bottles, forks, straws, cups, plates and disposable plates.
"Sustainable environment is a guarantee to a healthy, better and productive society.
“Today I am announcing another ban on single use plastics in all our protected areas, including National Parks, beaches, forests and conservation areas effective 5th June, 2020,” he said
The ban on plastic bags usage continues to take effect in different parts of Africa and the entire world.
Other countries where plastic ban has been embraced are Eritrea, Tanzania, Rwanda and Mauritania.
